The consulting department of KiRA, “KiRA Consult”, was set up in 2009 because they wanted to offer other companies their expertise on implementing children’s rights in Africa.
Our work is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
With this we want to extend our current work, by continuing with our previous field of intervention (professional supervision of projects) and through this campaigning for a strengthened and improved implementation of children’s rights in Africa. With our commitment and experience, we want to contribute towards supporting the African partners in their development, making human and financial resources available, and initiating or strengthening alliances.
Through our consulting work on “Projects based on children’s rights” we want to promote realistic, concrete action which is directly related to the needs and interests of children, as well as political and legal action. We take a holistic approach on three levels: politics, civil society and concrete projects on improving the living situation of children. We consciously promote exchange and cooperation between the state and civil society, for action which is mutually beneficial, responsible and sustainable. This means that networking people who are involved in implementing children’s rights also plays a key role.

Our consulting is based on an understanding between partners with equal rights, as well as openness and clarity - borne out of mutual respect.
We understand that our role is to mediate and guide in order to underline the importance of children’s rights and the ways to effectively implement them and incorporate them into projects. However, concrete actions have to grow from our own initiative, and be in line with our basic understanding of the personal responsibility of each and every one of us for our actions. Only then can these actions be sustainable. We want to guide and support our partners with this.

Our vision |
All children grow up, regardless of where they come from, in a political, communal and social environment, which protects and promotes their rights and dignity. They develop into humane, peaceful and responsible citizens, who help to shape our future together.
The first United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, called the Geneva Declaration of 1924, states “mankind owes to the child the best that it has to give”.
Children and young people in Africa also have the right to enforce their basic and inalienable rights.

Our mission |
We want to help set up a social environment which protects and promotes children’s rights, particularly in Africa. It is therefore important to us that:
Basic needs of children are met, and children are protected against violence, abuse, exploitation, social exclusion, neglect and despotism, |
All children – girls as well as boys – have equal and inalienable rights, opportunities for personal development and the chance at a good future, The dignity of children is respected, |
Children grow up in peace and freedom (with their family if possible), are socially integrated and participate in the community. |
Therefore we want to make an effective and lasting contribution, through realistic action which is specifically child-related, as well as political and legal action. We want to bring in our dedication and experience and further develop our own competencies as well as those of our (African) partners. As well as this, we will provide human and financial resources and initiate or strengthen alliances which help us to implement children’s rights.
